Refill for HP 27/56 Black

Cartridge:

  • HP 27
  • HP 56

Type: Sponge

Ink Volume: 5ml

Cartridge Color: Black

Materials Required

  • Empty or Partially Filled Cartridge
  • Black Refill Ink
  • Disposable Glove
  • Paper Towel
  • Syringe and Needle
  • Printhead Cleaning Wipes

1. Before beginning, ensure that the cartridge is refilled on top of a non-absorbent, easy to clean material (like a sink).

2. Partially remove the identification label from the top of the cartridge until all the holes are revealed as in the provided reference picture below (Note: Peel the label starting from the top left or top right)

3. Fill the syringe with the proper amount of ink (5 ml). For a standard 3cc syringe, you may need to fill it up to 2 times. (Note: 1ml = 1cc)

4. Insert the needle no more than an inch into any hole (all holes lead into a single, central ink chamber) as shown in the picture reference. Avoid wiggling or shaking the needle during this process to reduce potential damage to the cartridge. Once inside, slowly inject the ink as to make sure that it does not overflow due to residual ink on the cartridge sponge. If the ink begins to spill out from the top of the cartridge pull the syringe back ½ ml and stop.

5. It is normal for the printhead to drip excess ink for a short time. During this period do not allow the printhead to have direct contact with an absorbent material such as a paper towel as this will cause the cartridge to continue leaking. Wait until the dripping has ceased before dabbing off excess ink from the printhead with a soft cloth or a towel.

6. Use the provided Printhead Cleaning Wipes to clean the bottom of the cartridge. If you run out of the provided wipes, you may use a damp cotton cloth with water or rubbing alcohol to achieve a similar result.

7. Seal the top of the cartridge using the original identification label.

8. Insert the cartridge back into the printer. It is normal for the printer to display a low ink notification after the refill process. This does not affect the cartridge’s ability to print but if you would like to reset the counter, please refer to step 9 and 10.

9. Cover the gold contact as shown in red in the reference picture for step 1 with tape. After re-inserting the cartridge into the printer, it will begin by performing a print alignment. Once this step is complete, proceed to the next step.

10. Once the alignment is complete remove the cartridge from the printer. Cover the gold contact as shown in red in the reference picture for step 2 with tape. Do not remove the tape from the previous step. The printer will begin performing another print alignment. Allow this step to complete and proceed by removing the cartridge from the printer. This time, remove both pieces of tape and place the cartridge back into the printer. The counter should reset back to full.

11. Print 5 pages to settle the cartridge and test for printing irregularities. Alternatively, you may print a color picture or a black text document to test the  color or black cartridge, respectively. It is also recommended to run the Alignment Tool or Cleaning Tool from the printer. Most printers with an LCD display will have this option available in the settings menu. Printers without a display will generally have this setting under Printer Preferences/Settings from the PC/Mac.

12. If you are having trouble with the refill kit please refer to our comprehensive troubleshooting guide or contact us by SUBMITTING A TICKET (Click Here).

Refill for Canon CL-41/51/241/XL Tri-Color

Cartridge #:

  • Canon CL-41
  • Canon CL-51
  • Canon CL-241 or CL-241XL

Type: Sponge

Ink Volume:

  • Canon CL-41 – 4ml per color
  • Canon CL-51 – 4ml per color
  • Canon CL-241 – 2.5ml per color
  • Canon CL-241XL – 5ml per color

Cartridge Color: Tri-Color

Materials Required:

  • -Empty or Partially Empty Cartridge
  •  Magenta/Cyan/Yellow Refill Inks
  • -Disposable Glove
  • -Drill Tool
  • -Paper Towels/Cotton Cloth
  • -Syringe w/ Needle
  • Print Head Cleaning Wipes

1.This cartridge requires minor drilling with the provided drill bit in order to expose the sponge inside the cartridge located beneath the plastic top. Refer to the image below or the *Drill Spot* section above for the drill location. NOTE: The drill bit included with this kit is SHARP and should be used with CAUTION. (Hold bit on its blunt side and apply slight pressure while twisting it in BOTH a clockwise and counterclockwise motion (back and forward). It may take a few minutes to break through the plastic). For safety reasons DO NOT apply heavy pressure to the drill bit while twisting. It does not require much pressure to drill through the soft plastic of the cartridge. Once the drill bit creates a small hole on the top of the cartridge, REMOVE the bit and do not drill further into the cartridge. Drilling the sponge will permently damage the cartridge. (Store drill bit and kit in a SAFE location and out of the REACH OF CHILDREN when the refill process is completed)

*This drill bit does not include a handle or grip since it is an actual high speed drill bit and not the brittle drill tools sold by other companies. These are designed to drill through much harder material than the cartridge’s plastic top*

2. Fill the syringe with the proper amount of ink. (See Ink Volume section above for the proper fill amount.) You may need to fill the syringe multiple times depending on the amount of ink required. (Standard syringe sizes come in 3cc or 5cc) -> 3cc = 3ml / 5cc = 5ml

3. Insert the needle into the hole as shown in the picture reference (Right) and SLOWLY inject the ink into the cartridge. (Note: It is important to INSERT the needle no more than 1 INCH into the cartridge -> Inserting the needle completely into the cartridge or wiggling it during the refill process will permanently damage the cartridge). Some cartridges may not be able to accept the stated fill amount as the sponge may still contain some ink residue. If the ink begins to spill out from the top of the cartridge pull the syringe back 1/2 ml and STOP.

4. Fill the syringe with clean water and drain to prepare for the next color.

5. Repeat steps 2-4 for the remaining colors.

6. It is normal for the printhead to drip excess ink (couple of ml) for a short period of time. During this time do not allow the printhead to have direct contact with an absorbant material (paper towel, etc) as this will cause the cartridge to continue leaking. (You may put the cartridge with the printhead facing down in a dry sink for 3-5 minutes). Use a soft cloth to dap off the excess ink from the printhead (bottom of the cartridge) once the dripping has cease.

7. Use the provided Print Head Cleaning Wipes to clean the bottom of the printhead. (This step is not necessary but recommended to remove dried on ink from the printhead). If you run out of the provided wipes, you may use a damp cotton cloth with water or rubbing alcohol to achieve the same result.

8. Insert the cartridge back into the printer. It is NORMAL for the printer to display a low ink notification after the refill process. You can hold the STOP/RESET button the printer for 5+ seconds to disable the ink level indicator for this cartridge. This does not affect the cartridge’s ability to print. For more information regarding this and steps to disable this notification see our Troubleshooter for a step by step tutorial.

9. Print 5 test pages to settle the cartridge and test for printing irregularities. (Test pages are available under the download section of our support database). You may also print a picture (color cartridge) or word document (black cartridge) to achieve similar results. It is also recommended to run the Alignment Tool or Cleaning Tool from the printer (Most printers with a Digital LCD will have this option available directly on the printer. Printers without a display will generally have this setting under Printer Preferences/Settings from the PC/Mac.)

10. If you are having trouble with the refill kit please refer to our comprehensive troubleshooting guide or contact us by SUBMITTING A TICKET (Click Here).

Refill for Canon CL-211/244/246/261/XL Tri-Color

Cartridge:

  • Canon CL-211 or CL-211XL
  • Canon CL-244
  • Canon CL-246 or CL-246XL
  • Canon CL-261 or CL-261XL

Type: Sponge

Ink Volume:

  • Canon CL-211/211XL – 5ml per color
  • Canon CL-244 – 5ml per color
  • Canon CL-246/246XL – 5ml per color
  • Canon CL-261/261XL – 5ml per color

Cartridge Color: Tri-Color (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow)

Materials Required:

  • Empty or Partially Empty Cartridge
  • Magenta/Cyan/Yellow Refill Inks
  • Disposable Glove
  • Drill Tool
  • Paper Towels/Cotton Cloth
  • Syringe w/ Needle
  • Print Head Cleaning Wipes

1. Before beginning, ensure that the cartridge is refilled on top of a flat surface that is easy to clean and won’t stain. Place one or several folded sheets of paper towels beneath the cartridge.

2. Partially remove the identification label from the top of the cartridge until all the holes are revealed as below. You will note that the regular and the XL cartridge look identical. Although they are filled to a different volume at the factory, either cartridge should be able to hold around 5 mL of ink per color. Also note that the following white dots are the location of the air holes – do not cover them.

3. Position the included drill tool over the provided air holes (as referenced above) as they each lead to three, different ink chambers. Slowly turn the included drill bit tool in a forward and reverse motion until you are able to access the ink reservoir beneath with the provided needle.

4. Fill the syringe until full (around 5 mL) though the fill capacity of the cartridge may be lower depending on any remaining ink inside.

5. Insert the needle into the hole as shown in the picture reference and slowly inject the ink into the cartridge. (Note: It is important to insert the needle no more than 1 INCH into the cartridge; inserting the needle completely into the cartridge or wiggling it during the refill process may permanently damage the filter and the cartridge). If the ink begins to spill out from the top of the cartridge pull the syringe back 1/2 ml and STOP.

6. Repeat steps 3-5 for the remaining colors.

7. It is normal for the printhead to drip excess ink for a short time. During this period do not allow the printhead to have direct contact with an absorbent material such as a paper towel as this may cause the cartridge to continue leaking. Simply leave the cartridge in a dry sink and wait until the dripping has ceased before using the provided alcohol cleaning wipe (or a damp towel with water/rubbing alcohol) to clean the bottom of the cartridge. Additionally, dab off any excess ink from the printhead with a lint-free towel or a soft cloth

8. Seal the top of the cartridge using the original identification label. Do not cover or block the air hole with tape.

9. Insert the cartridge back into the printer. It is normal for the printer to display a low ink notification after the refill process, as this sensor is based on the number of pages printed and not the actual ink capacity of the cartridge. You can hold the STOP/RESET button the printer for 5+ seconds to disable the ink level indicator for this cartridge. Either way, this does not affect the cartridge’s ability to print.

10. Perform a nozzle check pattern print test to settle the cartridge and check for any printing irregularities.
